The International Air Transport Association (IATA) supports aviation with global standards for airline safety, security, efficiency and sustainability.Karl Kraus (1874-1936), a satirist and polemicist, was not only one of the most original thinkers of the 20th century but one of the few writers from Central Europe to have proved his international influence. This book traces the writer's career, focusing on the period 1890-1910. A German of Jewish background, Kraus made his name first as a journalist, achieving fame with his satirical reviews of German society, especially in his weekly journal 'Die Fackel' (The Torch). He also wrote superb and self-reflective prose. He was greatly admired by his contemporaries, including Freud, Max Brod and Stefan Zweig. The book opens with some brilliant essays on politics, journalism and art. Kraus was a brilliant polemicist, a 'pernickety' (Mittel-europaische Religionspädagoge) and at one time even briefly a member of parliament. However he was also a man of gregarious charm, coolly charismatic. He was a great admirer of Nietzsche, and expressed his admiration by means of the word 'Nietzsche-fantasy'. This book is a stimulating study of one of the most original and remarkable writers of the 20th century. It is strongly recommended as an essay-reading and reference book.
